Frequently asked questions.
What is your therapeutic approach?
My work is relationship-focused and person-centered, drawing heavily from Hakomi—a mindfulness-based, body-oriented trauma healing model. I also integrate insights from the neuroscience of healing, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Buddhist psychology, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. You can learn more about Hakomi here.
What types of issues do you support people with?
I support individuals in building inner trust and attuning to their needs, finding relief from anxiety and stress through nervous system regulation and guided self-inquiry, navigating loss and major life transitions, healing trauma held in the body and mind, uncovering unconscious patterns that may have prevented alignment with their desires, and cultivating a compassionate and accepting relationship with themselves.
What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t work for me?
Many of my clients come to me after finding that traditional talk therapy didn’t address their deeper needs. My approach is experiential and somatic, focusing on the mind- body connection and incorporating mindfulness to explore the root causes of challenges. We’ll move at your pace, ensuring the process feels supportive and collaborative.
How often will I come?
During our first session, we’ll decide together on the frequency of your sessions. Initially, weekly sessions are most common as we get to know each other and work toward creating stability in your system. However, sessions can also be scheduled fortnightly or less frequently, depending on financial, geographical, or personal considerations.
How long might psychotherapy take overall?
The length of therapy varies depending on individual needs. Many of my clients seek long-term therapy, while others work on specific issues for a period, take a break, and return when needed. This flexible cycle is always available. Some clients prefer not to take breaks and instead adjust the frequency of their sessions over time. It’s a deeply personal process, and we’ll discuss what feels right for you.
What if I’m scared to feel my body or don’t know what it means to feel? Can I still do body-based psychotherapy?
Absolutely. Many of my clients have experienced complex trauma or have never learned to connect inwardly—it’s a skill most of us aren’t taught until we realize its importance for healthy relationships. Avoiding this connection might have been, and may still be, an essential survival strategy. I specialize in co-regulation and creating a slow, supportive process to help your nervous system stay within its unique window of tolerance. Connection and safety always come first.
Do you offer telehealth or home visits?
Yes, I offer online therapy as part of my practice. Clients who live locally or elsewhere in Australia can access telehealth services. The fees are the same for in-person and online sessions. I also offer home visits for youth in residential care and individuals on the NDIS who cannot leave their homes, with an additional cost for travel.
What is the cost per session? Do you offer sliding scale fees?
I offer 60-minute sessions for $150. To make therapy as accessible as possible, I reserve a few sliding scale spots for those with a current pension or concession card. Currently, these spots are filled.
Do I need a mental health care plan?
No, you can make an appointment directly with me and have as many sessions as you need. Your therapeutic journey is entirely your own. Because accessing my services does not involve a mental health care plan, your sessions will not appear on your permanent medical record, which many clients find empowering.
Does Medicare cover your services?
No, Medicare does not currently cover counselling and psychotherapy in Australia. However, this means my fees remain consistent and do not increase after a set number of sessions, which my long-term clients appreciate.
